A/N: Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I've really, really missed this interaction. There were no correct guesses yet on the sci-fi area this story was inspired by; however, "Logan's Run" was the closest. It's the right decade! This update is a little short, but the next one won't be. I'm going to try to be consistent and post a chapter every Friday. Also, I will be using some familiar scenes that played out on GL after Natalia returned. As the story progresses though, it will veer further and further away from canon. Just an FYI. That very well could mean that Olivia and Natalia could make sweet lady love sooner rather than later.

On with the show!

Chapter 2

ONE MONTH LATER

Olivia jerked her hand back from Natalia, the pain of the brunette’s departure written plainly on her tear-streaked face. “You broke my heart!”

She reached for the older woman again, only to have her pull away again. “Olivia, please, let me explain.” Even as she said the words though, she had no idea how to explain a lie, nothing could make that right.

Sniffing and wiping at her eyes, Olivia was suddenly back in control. She straightened up and steeled her facial features. “There’s nothing to explain, and there’s nothing we need to say to each other.”

Panic set in as Natalia watched Olivia walk away. She did the only thing she could think of and she knew it wasn’t fair as soon as the words flew out of her mouth. “What about Emma?”

That stopped Olivia in her tracks. Olivia had spun around and was back in Natalia’s face in seconds, the look in her eyes deadly. “Don’t you dare try to use Emma in this.”

“Use her? I can’t believe you’d even suggest that!” Natalia was indignant. “I love her, and I love you too.”

Olivia looked the brunette up and down, her gesture bordering between mocking and lecherous. “Hmmm, maybe you should work on that.”

Natalia stood her ground, gazing defiantly into the stormy green ones staring back at her. She nodded, accepting the challenge. “I will. I’ll work on it and prove it to you and Emma.”

Olivia shook her head. “No. I’m warning you only once, Natalia. Stay away from Emma. You’ve seen how I get when I’m protecting my daughter. You don’t want that.”

Remembering the image of Olivia loading her gun, ready to race from the house and hunt down Phillip Spaulding, Natalia acknowledged Olivia’s warning. “Probably not.”

With a scoffing chuckle, Olivia turned and walked away again. This time Natalia didn’t try to stop her. She needed time and Natalia couldn’t blame her for that. It would give Natalia a chance to take care of some business she needed to clear up. She was by no means giving up on her family, but she had some other matters to attend to in the meantime.

With a sad sigh, Natalia retrieved her cell phone from her jean’s pocket and typed in the code she’d memorized while away. After a few moments, her phone buzzed with a response. Rafe had always been quick to respond. That’s why he was a great agent, but that didn’t mean he didn’t have his faults.

“Okay, let’s get this party started,” she muttered as she tucked the phone back in her pocket.

Seems Natalia has her work cut out for her. Interesting info about Rafe, now I'm really curious. :o)

I am really anxious to learn why Natalia has to be secretive. The use of the word "agent" leads my mind all sorts of places. Olivia needs to trust...well, I know why she doesn't, but the tension is killing me.
