Chapter 17

It was after nine o’clock before Rafe and Natalia’s release paperwork was completed.  Once they were settled into the suite, Natalia and Olivia’s room on one side and Rafe’s on the other, Olivia went back to the front desk to request the keys for the other two suites before heading back over to the hospital.

She found Josh and handed him two keys to the suite for him and Rick.  She turned to find Buzz when Josh grabbed her arm.

“Please tell me you’ll get a good night’s sleep tonight.”

She ran a hand through her hair and blew out a long sigh.  “I’ll try.”

“Do it, Olivia.  You’ve been running for nearly a week now with hardly stopping, eating, or sleeping.”

She cut him off.  “I need to take care of Natalia…and Rafe.”

He took her hand and insisted by his look that she maintain eye contact with him.  “You have, now rest.  If not for you, then for them and for Emma when you get back.”

Olivia shook her head.  “Okay, I promise.”

“Good.  Look, since things are settling down here, I think I’m going to head back to Springfield tomorrow.”

She smiled at him knowingly.  “You talked to Reva, didn’t you?”

“Don’t start, Liv!”

“What?  I didn’t say a thing.”

“Uh huh.”

A long moment of silence stretched between them and then Olivia moved into his arms.  “Thank you.  I never could have done this without you.  No offense, but you’re so much better as a friend than a lover.”

Josh pulled her tighter into the hug, laughing, and gave her a kiss on the cheek, whispering in her ear.  “I’m so happy for you, Liv.  So happy that you found the love you deserve.”

“You deserve it too.  Don’t give up on her.”  He nodded and pulled out of the hug.  She tucked some hair behind her ear.  “I’ll call the airport and have the plane ready for you.  What time do you want to leave?”

“Not too early.  10 AM?”

“You got it.  Oh, have you seen Buzz?”

He pointed down the hall behind her.  “Right there.”

Buzz was standing at a station down a side hallway, talking to some man in a suit.  The other man handed Buzz a folder, shook his hand, and walked off.  When she saw that Buzz was alone, she walked up to him.

“Hey.”

“Hi, Olivia.”  He rubbed at his bloodshot eyes and scrubbed his fingers through his short, gray hair.  “Are Natalia and Rafe at the hotel?”

“Yeah.  That’s why I’m here.  These are for you.”  She handed him two sets of key passes.

“Thanks.  I’ll give these to Mallet and Marina so they can get Henry to bed, but I’ll be a while.”  We waved the paperwork in the air.  “I have to read and verify these reports and sign off before I can get his…,” he stumbled over his words, “body…to ship back home.”

She bit at her lip, fighting the tears.  “Look, I should explain what happened and why Frank was here.”

He raised his hand to silence her and turned fully to face her.  “You don’t need to, Liv.  Josh filled me in on what happened.  See, Frank always wanted to be the big guy, the hero.  I even remember him pretending to be Batman as a kid and saving the city from the Joker.  It’s why he became a cop, to be the good guy, and save the day.  He always saw himself as more than he was.”

She tilted her head to the side, regarding her friend.  “He was that guy.  This time, he was.”

He looked down and swiped at the tear that fell from his eye.  She felt like she was giving out hugs constantly lately, but with all the history between them, she couldn’t resist giving him one as well.  If anyone else got her and understood her as well as Natalia, it was Buzz.  He saw the good in her when no one else did, and it was a characteristic so much like the woman she loved that she couldn’t help but acknowledge it.

When she stepped back, she smiled.  “Sorry about Marina, by the way.”

“No you’re not.”

She sighed, caught.  “Okay, no, I’m not.  But you guys didn’t need that with everything else going on.”

He chuckled a little.  “And you needed a crazed woman coming after your family?  I think not.  She had it coming for acting like that, and honestly, I don’t know what’s up with her lately.  She won’t even talk to me now.  It’s all kinds of messed up.”

“I know the feeling.  Anyway, I’ll give you a call in the morning, okay?  To touch base?”

He nodded.  “Okay.”

By the time she left the hospital and headed back to the hotel, it was just after ten o’clock.  She made a quick call to the airport to make sure the plane would be ready for Josh and then walked the short distance to the hotel.  Even though she had showered the day before, she felt the grime of the day weighing down on her.  She wanted nothing more than to get a hot shower, get into some of the clean clothes Lillian had bought them, and crawl into bed next to Natalia.  All of the calls and plans that needed to be made for going home would just have to wait.  A warm bed and an even warmer body were calling to her, beckoning like a siren on the sea.

The hotel lobby was mostly deserted except for a couple of the front desk clerks and several patrons hanging out in the bar.  She rarely felt out of place when staying at five star hotels, but in her wrinkled t-shirt and baggy jeans, she was thankful it was late and no one would see her.  She made a mental note to visit with the manager in the morning when she was more presentable to thank him for the accommodations.

When she entered the elevator and hit the button for the top floor, she only intended to rest her head against the cool metal of the wall.  The sudden jerk of the elevator coming to a stop almost made her fall, and she realized that she must have dozed off for a few seconds.  Perhaps she was more tired than she realized.  She yawned and rubbed her eyes as she swiped her card through the reader and entered the suite.

The lights were dimmed and a soft lilting sound came from the bedroom.  She checked the connecting door to Rafe’s room.  There was no light shining under the door so she assumed he was asleep already.  Turning back to the right and entering the bedroom, several small votive candles were lit around the room and she heard water splashing in the bathroom.

Smiling to herself, she imagined a very wet and very naked Natalia covered in nothing but soapy suds.  The thought made her knees suddenly feel weak and her body remarkably awake.  Who needs sleep?  she thought.

Going around the end of the bed, she peeked around the corner and indeed saw a sudsy Natalia neck deep in hot water, her long dark hair loosely pulled up on top of her head.  She knew she shouldn’t watch her like this, but she couldn’t resist a few stolen seconds simply admiring the glow of Natalia’s tan skin in the candlelight.  A shapely calf came out of the water as long fingers rubbed up and down the muscle then disappeared again beneath the water.  Olivia knew exactly where her mind was wishing those hands were going, and she closed her eyes to the mental image of Natalia’s hands touching her soapy curves.

Olivia fought down the moan that was struggling to come out.  She had waited for Natalia for so long.  Surely she could wait a little longer.  When she opened her eyes, contented brown eyes stared back at her.

“Hi,” she softly greeted the brunette.  She was surprised her voice worked at all as Natalia smiled at her, prominently displaying her dimples.

“Hi.  Was that a moan I heard?”

Olivia came fully into the room, crossing one leg over the other trying to appear casual and not unnerved by Natalia, and leaned against the door jam.

“Did I moan outloud?”

“Yes, you did.” Olivia actually blushed at being caught.

The older woman decided she needed to gain some ground back and strode across the bathroom.  “It’s kind of hard not to when I keep thinking about what’s hidden beneath these bubbles.”

She saw Natalia visibly swallow and smirked a little feeling her mojo coming back full force.

“And what’s hidden under here?” Natalia’s voice was deeper, barely hiding her rising desire, and Olivia liked it.

“The body and soul of the most exquisite and intoxicating woman I’ve ever known.”

Olivia braced one hand on the side of the tub and leaned over.  She slipped a hand into the soapy water, quickly finding Natalia’s waist, and let her fingers dance up the space between the brunette’s breasts.  She relished the hitching of Natalia’s breath and the slight roll of her eyes as Olivia brushed the back of her fingers along the underside of Natalia’s breast, being careful to not touch her nipple.  They were already skirting so dangerously close.  It took all of Olivia’s strength to not slide her hand down between Natalia’s thighs and simply take her hard and fast right there.  Instead, she let her fingers go back to the resting spot on Natalia’s waist where they had started.

“I absolutely adore you, Natalia.”  She leaned over further and kissed the parted lips, feeling the kiss instantly returned as a wet hand emerged from the tub and wrapped in her hair.

Olivia broke the kiss causing Natalia to gasp.  “Maybe you should undress and find out for yourself what’s hidden here?”

Olivia groaned and pulled back from Natalia’s grasp, shaking her head.  “I want to.”  She rolled her eyes at the madness of what she was about to say.  “God knows I want nothing more than that, but if I get in this tub with you and finally feel you naked against me, I’m going to make love to you and not stop.”

“Nothing wrong with that.” Natalia leaned up out of the water, instinctively wanting to get closer, and Olivia caught a glimpse of her breast.  She closed her eyes quickly before she lost her nerve to say the rest.

“Nothing at all.  But when we make love I want it to be in our bed in our house.”

Natalia looked at her disbelieving for a moment, wondering if she really heard her right.  Olivia was actually turning down the chance to make love to her…in a big, comfortable king size bed in a fancy hotel on a lush Caribbean island.  She rested her head back against the tub, taking that thought in, and then turned to narrow her eyes at Olivia, who was trying not to smirk at getting her worked up.

“That’s just mean, Olivia.”

Olivia then started laughing fully at her now flustered girlfriend.  “You’ll thank me later.  Besides, we’ve waited this long, what’s another day or two?”

“It’s torture.  That’s what it is!”  Her bottom lip came out in a full pout.

“Don’t.  No pouting.”  Then the brunette smiled.  “Not the dimples.”  Then as if in slow motion, Natalia stood up in the tub, rivulets of water and soap cascading down and caressing every inch of curves that Olivia stared at wide-eyed.  “Oh God.”  Olivia whimpered and practically ran from the bathroom.

Natalia smiled to herself and started to reach for her robe, knowing the game wasn’t finished yet.  Her pajamas were still out on the bed.  Suddenly, the door opened again and Olivia tossed the clothes on the nearby toilet and scurried off.

Olivia pulled the door closed quickly behind her and rolled her eyes at the sexy laugh on the other side of the door.  “Two can play this game, Olivia.”

“Good God!  Obviously, she’s not that naïve!  This is going to be a long night.”
