Yeah, I thought about law school too, but decided against it as well for much the same reason. I'd become known as "that WTF lawyer" because that's all I'd ever say to the judge.
Supposedly, with trusts, whatever is written in the trust is what goes because it can't be sent to probate and probate is where family can contest all kinds of things. That's what happens to wills all the time. Many people think that a will is enough, but a will, by itself, can be challenged and it can get stuck for years in probate and won't be over until whoever goes broke first from the legal fees gives up the challenge.
