Like I said, she's damn good. She's lived here forever but used to work for the ACLU and I think over time she's built up a lot of contacts and people that help her when needed.

Actually, you technically don't need second-parent adoption to stop it from getting over-ruled. All you need to do is set up a trust, which is basically what we're doing except we're adding the adoption to it. The good thing about the adoption is that it's recognized no matter what state we move to (funny, you'd think it would act like those things called marriages, where apparently only when you're gay does it change from state-to-state -- hand me that duck tape, I feel a rant coming). I'm not sure if a trust would need to be redone every time you move, and that would cost a friggin' fortune.
